THEATER highlights include starring as Orlando opposite Kate Forbes in Nashville Shakespeare Festival’s very first production, As You Like It, and playing Principal Moore in a New York production of Tigers Be Still. I also performed in Golden Boy at Pasadena Playhouse with a then-unknown Mark Ruffalo.
TRAINING began when I was a mere 12 years old in Nashville at Ruth Sweet's (student of Lee Strasberg) The Acting Studio and Nashville Children's Theater. In Nashville as an adolescent I immersed myself in theater, tv and film, which included making my professional debut in a regional touring production of Carousel, and appearing in the Amy Grant music video "Angels". I moved to Chicago for college, where I studied theater at Northwestern University, and enjoyed a semester in London at British-American Drama Academy, studying with greats like Dorothy Tutin, Frank Hauser, Norman Ayrton and Peter Jeffrey. In Los Angeles, I studied Spolin-based improv with Stephen Book and acting with the legendary Jeff Corey. I currently train in New York with Rob McCaskill.
TEACHING college is how I spent over a decade between my acting careers. Taking a hiatus from acting, I earned a second bachelor’s degree in Classics at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. After UT I moved to New York, where I worked as a freelance writer before going back to school once again and earning a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature at CUNY Graduate Center. I taught Classics at Brooklyn College and English at USMA, West Point. I also tutored John Jay High School students as an Americorps volunteer and taught summer writing camps. Those years took me to far-flung places intellectually and emotionally, and even geographically (an archaeological dig on the island of Crete). Highlights included taking college field trips with Brooklyn high school students, teaching Greek mythology to thousands of CUNY students, and introducing West Point cadets to the pleasure—and sometimes torture—of studying and performing Shakespeare.
WRITING I also write. I'm very proud of an essay I published in The Fortnightly Review about the exhaustive and amusing search for my paternal ancestry, and I translated from French a collection of Revolutionary War prison letters, Caught in the Crossfire: The New York City Prison Letters of St. John de Crèvecoeur (currently being prepared for publication).
DIRECTING I've also made a few films. In 2020 I released the documentary feature They Look Like Trees, a vérité film about a man who suddenly loses his sight after 60 years of perfect vision, which leads to an unlikely friendship with his neighbor. It had its first run on Amazon. Now you can view it for free on YouTube at this link. We had an exciting world premiere in October 2019 at Over-the-Rhine International Film Festival in Cincinnati, Ohio. My entry into filmmkaing was the 2011 documentary short A Neighborhood Reborn: Life in Lower Manhattan 10 Years After 9/11.
I'm thrilled to announce that I'm joining the cast of the Netflix political thriller The Night Agent in the recurring role of Byron Gedney, starting in Season 2 (premiering 2025). Season 1 of The Night Agent was Netflix's most-viewed TV show of 2023, and it's in the Netflix Top 10 all-time most-viewed TV shows.
On October 3, 2024, I'll be appearing in the season premiere of Law & Order as Brooklyn DA Brian White.
I got to spend a week in September sharing the screen with veteran actors Carrie Preston and Pamela Adlon for CBS' Elsbeth #205. Pictured with director Ron Underwood. Look out for it this fall 2024 in November or December.
Look out in 2025 for the new Amazon series Étoile from Daniel Palladino and Amy Sherman-Palladino, the brilliant team behind The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. The star of the new comedy is Luke Kirby, who played Lenny Bruce in "Mrs. Maisel". I was thrilled to appear in Episode 103 of Étoile with Luke as well as the great English actor Simon Callow. I hope all this brilliance rubbed off on me.
Clowning around in the green room right before acting in a scene with Robert DeNiro on the new Netflix political thriller Zero Day. Coming to Netflix in 2025.

A devastatingly beautiful, tragic and funny feature film I'm in, I Think I'm Sick from filmmaker and You Tube star Danny Gevirtz, won the grand prize (Best Feature Film) at the Rhode Island International Film Festival in August -- a great way to world-premiere! That was only the beginning. It's won top prize at several other festivals as well: Manchester [England] Film Festival (International), Garden State Film Festival, Montreal Independent Film Festival, and San Francisco Indiefest. Watch the trailer or just watch the whole film. Garden State Film Festival honored me with a nomination for Best Supporting Actor, alongside nominees Ed Begley, Jr. and John Cleese.

It stars Rosanna Arquette, Zoë Bleu Sidel, and Hopper Jack Penn. It also enjoyed theatrical release in Italy after winning a prestigious prize at Rome Film Festival. In this scene, I grill my daughter's new boyfriend.
The faith-based film The Thursday Night Club, featuring 70s pop diva Gloria Gaynor, had its premiere in time for the 2022 Christmas season on the streaming app PureFlix. I play a working-class dad breaking some tough news to my son Kevin in this scene.
Thank you, Baltimore, and Lady in the Lake for the warm welcome! With the help of movie magic, I transformed into Major General Howard and was transported to a far-flung desert from the parking lot of a Baltimore school. Watch out for this Apple TV+ limited series in 2024, starring Natalie Portman.
In January 2022 I guest-starred as SEC Director Everett Willis opposite Christopher Meloni on NBC's Law & Order: Organized Crime.
In September 2021 I donned surgical scrubs for the Season One finale (#110) of the STARZ TV series Power Book III: Raising Kanan. 50 Cent is executive producer of this series from Lionsgate.
In the summer of 2021 I hit the golf course with Corbin Bernsen and Justin Theroux and shot my role as Golfer in episode #104 of HBO's Watergate mini-series White House Plumbers. Woody Harrelson, Justin Theroux, and Lena Headey lead a cast of 100 stars!
